Polish Winged Hussars by akreon Polish Winged Hussars by akreon
Hussars were a type of elite heavy cavalry in Poland between the 16th and 18th centuries that managed to stay undefeated for 125 years.

I think I'm in a mood for more illustrations like this one. So many fascinating cavalry formations worldwide, so little time. Any suggestions?

Well, this is less of a Calvary thing, but Hessian mercenaries would make for an interesting topic for illustration. Try it sometime. ;3

what a marvelous sense of motion .. I can practically smell the dust kicked up the charging horses, I can hear and feel the thudding hooves on the ground .. so beautifully painted .. so evocative all that this scene represents!

I've been watching you for a while now, but I didn't know you had painted this. You just got up the list a few points for that, I love the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth and the Winged Hussari specifically.

Looks super awesome! :)

If there were a real equivalent of the Rohirrin of Tolkien, those were the Winged Hussars :)

Niesamowite.

If you like cavalry charge scenes, there are some wonderful subjects from the Napoleonic Era.

And the Ancient Macedonians (Alexander the Great and his "Successor" provide a rich source of inspiration...

Finally, the Victorian Age British Empire witnessed some spectacular cavalry charges; most notably the charge of the 16th Lancers at the Battle of Aliwal (where they managed to charge clean through a Sikh square!); and the immortal Charge of the Light Brigade!

ZAJEBISTE!

pozdrawiam, momot421

Suggestion: What about British/Scottish Heavy cavalry or French lancers (also cav) from 17th century Waterloo battle period ?

By the way I love the picture ! I bet with those wings of theirs they must've had quite an impact on enemy's morale! (I know that I'd be scared shitless :D)

The Polish Husaria is the most awesome cavalry ever existed.
As for suggestion: the Hungarian cavalry in the 9th-10th century was also a beautiful one, imo.
As well, as the Hussars of Hungary in the 19th C.
